Odd Forest

This was the first thing I ever 3D modeled. It had all started with the fallen tree log and the stump in the middle of the scene. From there, pine trees!

At this point I did not know about skyboxes, so I simply made a huge shape to make a sky-colored background. Due to this, the lighting caused the trees to cast shadows on it. It makes the whole scene have a sort of shoe-box diorama effect.

This work was done in Maya, using a basic shader. Most works after this ended up using the "Arnold" shader, which makes much more complicated light. In this setting, I rather enjoy the simplicity of the light. It adds to the dissonance of the scene and the sensation that something isn't quite right.
